Babies and children cared for at Mater are affectionately known as Mater Little Miracles. Each and every one of Mater’s little patients is a miracle - from the newborn baby in Mater Mothers’ Hospitals to children battling serious illness in Mater Children’s Hospitals.
Each year, 2000 premature and seriously ill babies rely on Mater's Neonatal Critical Care Unit for specialised care. These babies can be as young as 24 weeks gestation and weigh as little as 400 grams. Mater Children's Hospitals provide care to thousands of children each year and have the busiest paediatric emergency department in Queensland.
